Christmas Past and Present BHPA held its first annual Christmas Past and Present for its members on the evening of Saturday, December 12. To kick off this new tradition for the holiday season, Bob Heinonen performed his popular "A Cowboy's Christmas."
Visitors strolled up the pathway that was lit by candlelight and visited the 1894 Wooster School and 1910 Brown-McKay House which were dressed in period decorations. Guests also witnessed a representation of a traditional Christmas dinner in the Brown-McKay House.
Later in the evening, the lights in the barn were dimmed as everyone imagined sitting around an 1874 cowboy's campfire while visiting Bob at his line camp with coyotes howling in the distance. Bob told what he has been doing since last Christmas and why he is out here on the range by himself this year. He told some of his favorite cowboy poetry about Christmas and had everyone join him in a song.
BHPA plans to open this new event to the community next year and we hope you will join us! Click here to see a few photos from the event.
Texas Independence Day Celebration BHPA celebrated Texas Independence Day (March 2, 1836) on Saturday, February 27, 2010, with some Texas fellowship from 1 p.m. to 3 pm. Docents dressed in period attire conducted tours of the 1894 one-room Wooster School and 1910 Brown-McKay Farmhouse. Children activities included tin punching and blacksmith demonstrations. The event concluded with a toast of good old Texas water to the 54 brave men who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence at Washington-on-the-Brazos. We hope you will join us next year in celebrating the 175th anniversary of Texas Independence Day!
